Day 5

Sankt Goar to Munich

As leaders we decided to make a stop at Dachau concentration camp enroute to Munich. Our tour manager thought this was possible too so we did. Very powerful and amazing experience. Personally it was a chance to pay homage to all my friends parents and families - very moving to say the least. The students were very appreciative also and I hope enlightened! dacchau_entrance.jpg
In the quiet we made our way to Munich which was experiencing a city wide convention. To buy time rather than a walking tour we took a bike tour thru the city centre. Great fun! I can't remember the last time I was on a bike. After a few shaky moments, it really was like riding a bike again. Ha ha. I love how European cities have a serious dedicated and safe bike culture.Mike_s_bik..scot_munich.jpgbike_tour_munich.jpg I didn't even have to wear a helmet and I wasn't worried. Funny how in Calgary we give pedestrians the right of way, not my experience here.
After the bike ride we went to dinner at augustiners Brau haus. Huge restaurant in the centre of town. All 30 of us ate in a separate dining room one the second floor. The male servers brought the food up on 4 ft oval trays with at least 10 plates on each. Crazy. Food was yummy and the beer and pretzels yummier! Augustiners_in_Muncih.jpgPaying bills was not yummy and it impacted our ability to get to the famous hofbrauhaus! We managed to have 45 minutes I. Total and most of the 1litre steins were consumed.
The bus ride to the hotel in Bad-aibling took almost one hour, but it was worth it. The hotel was the best Jerry, the best.
